Backstage Academy is expanding its Visual Production academic team to support the growth of this unique and exciting programme.

Qualified applicants are being sought to complement the existing academic team educating a new generation of talent in the creative, technical and production design of lighting and video experiences for live events, theatre, corporate visuals and installations.

Qualified applicants will have content and spatial design experience from one or more of the following backgrounds; 3d game design, graphic design, animation, architectural visualisation, lighting design, experiential design, scenography, broadcast, photography, or film production.

Teaching across the course with a focus on your specialist areas within the course; Recruiting and coordinating Industry guests for seminars, training and Master-classes; Marking assignments; Contributing to curriculum development and quality assurance processes; Pastoral support of students; Helping to develop industry partnerships and student placement opportunities.

The successful candidate will have a track record of practical experience and up-to-date knowledge of current trends and issues in the subject area. An ability to motivate and inspire students and work closely and co-operatively in a small team is essential, as is a track record on demonstrable potential in industry practice.

Main Functions to the post:

➢ To teach and help co-ordinate the teaching of the Visual Production programme.
➢ To help develop and enhance the curriculum and assessment regime
➢ To develop Industry links and partnerships
➢ To enhance the student experience and ensure satisfaction.

Main Duties:

➢ To teach on the Visual Production course, and to help coordinate other teaching, industry based seminars and master classes.
➢ Work to the agreed budget and resources, including liaising with existing industry partners and to recommend new partners where appropriate.
➢ To work with the Course Leader and Administrator to ensure that student attendance targets and module hand in deadlines are met.
➢ To grade student work and act as internal moderator (2nd marker).
➢ Ensure all necessary grades and feedback are submitted to the Administrator for processing (exam boards).
➢ Contribute to quality management, adhering to the validating University policies & procedures.
➢ Attend course and exam boards as required.
➢ To liaise with the Course Leader re any course modifications as required.
➢ To liaise with relevant departments on logistics and planning issues.
➢ To recommend course content updates to the Course Leader as required.Contribute to master class program, and use your own contacts to add value to the content and delivery of the programme.
➢ To undertake regular group and individual tutorials.
➢ To give Pastoral support to students.
➢ To ensure all relevant Health & Safety policies are adhered to.
➢ To keep up to date with current industry practices, procedures, and technologies.
➢ To contribute to and assist in appropriate recruitment, admissions and induction activities.
➢ To carry out personal and professional development to enhance subject authority and to contribute to the clients reputation for academic and professional excellence.
➢ To be flexible in the role and undertake relevant academic and operational duties as assigned by the management team.

➢ Honours Degree and professional experience in relevant subject area
➢ Desirable but not essential a postgraduate qualification and/or a PGCE in a relevant subject area OR a willingness to obtain within the first year of appointment
➢ Experience of working in Higher Education would be highly desirable
➢ DBS approval will be required prior to commencing

Additional Information:
➢ Salary – Grade 8 (£33,574 to £38,896)
➢ Location – Wakefield & South Kirkby
➢ Contract – Fractional academic contract allowing continued professional work.
➢ Average Working Week – by negotiation.
